ATTENTION: Little Bear Donation Center SALE – FINAL 2 WEEKS! Reply

ATTENTION: The Little Bear Donation Center is shutting down.

We will begin selling off items to anyone who wants them (fire survivors can still take them for free with their Little Bear voucher).  Funds raised will go to the Little Bear Fire Relief Fund for survivors.  The month of Sept each Thurs/Fri/Sat from 10-3 we will sell as much as possible.  If you have groups that do benevolent work and would like some of the items, have them register with Margo at christianservices@live.com.  Whatever is left at the end of Sept will be available to groups to come get the first two weeks of Oct.  We will use the last two weeks in Oct to clear out leftover items and clean the building to turn back to leasing company Oct 31st.

We need helpers every Thurs/Fri/Sat in September to assist with the sale.  Please have anyone available to help to contact Margo at the email address above or call 575-257-4381 between 9am and 4pm Mon-Thurs or 9a-noon on Fri.  We will also need an abundance of Walmart bags.  If anyone has extras, please take them to the donation center.

Effective Sept 1st, the Little Bear Donation Center, located at 1940 Sudderth (River Crossing), will begin its shutdown phase.  This consists of, but may not be limited to, the following:

We will no longer be accepting in-kind donations.  People who come with donations will be referred to local charities.

7 Year Old Boy Raises Funds for Little Bear Survivors… Reply

Lincoln County (July 30, 2012): Edward and Darlene Camus have a 7-year-old grandson, Joey Camus, who lives in Maryland but has been here to visit them.  They sent him a clipping of the newspaper article telling about the Little Bear Fire.  Joey went to his parents and said he wanted to earn some money so he could send it to the fire survivors.  He worked at various chores and earned money which he then sent to his grandparents asking them to be sure it helped someone who was hurt by the fire.

If Joey can help then so can all of us…

The road to recovery from this fire and the possible flooding is going to be long and hard. It is also going to be very expensive, especially for those who have lost more than they can personally shelter. But you can make a life-changing difference for these families.

On June 4th, 2012 lightening sparked a fire now known as the Little Bear Fire in the mountains overlooking Lincoln County, New Mexico. From there it grew to become New Mexico’s most devastating fire in history. When the smoke had cleared, this little mountain community was left with over 250 homes and businesses that were completely wiped out. Homes burned, lives turned upside down, pristine forest destroyed.

Unfortunately, shortly after the flames were extinguished, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that they will not be offering any personal financial assistance to the survivors of this fire.

Little Bear Recovery TeamIn the wake of this disaster, the Little Bear Recovery Team was formed. This team is made up of all volunteers who live and work in the Lincoln County area. We were formed with the sole purpose of providing support to the survivors of this devastating incident. We are dedicated to helping each family that was affected by this fire to reach a point of full recovery from their losses. It is our earnest hope and prayer that by sharing our hearts and resources with our friends and neighbors in need, we can help them overcome the tremendous obstacles that lie ahead during this recovery period.

Donation Center: New Needs, New Hours Reply

The Little Bear Donation Center has new needs and new hours.

The survivors are in need of paper towels as well as other cleaning supplies. If you would like to donate these items, please drop them off at the Donation Center which is located at:

 1940 Sudderth Dr.

The new hours the Donation Center will be open are as follows:

9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday

This Donation Center is open for all of the survivors of the Little Bear fire. If you have suffered loss of property due to the fire, you are why the Donation Center is here. Please come on by and take what you need. If there is something specific that you need that is not at the Donation Center, please let us know and we will get the word out!

Again, a big “Thank You” goes out to all of the people and organizations who have donated items to our Little Bear Survivors.

URGENT: Supplies Needed for the Survivors… 2

Lincoln County, NM (June 27, 2012): The following items are need immediately for the survivors of the Little Bear Fire:

  • Large trash cans
  • Tools such as shovels and rakes
  • Work gloves

If you can provide any of these items, please bring by the Donation Center at 1940 Sudderth Drive between 9am – 7pm Mon-Fri or between 9am – 3pm Sat. The center is closed on Sundays.

NOTE: If they are doing debris cleanup, whether fire survivor or volunteer, you are welcome to come get clothing at the Donation Center or at Christian Services that you can work in and then just throw away.

Also, the Donations Center still needs clothing racks and tables.  If you want them back, they need to be clearly marked.

Little Bear Donation Center Now Open… Reply

The Little Bear Recovery Team can happily report that the Little Bear Donation Center at River Crossing is now open to receive from the generous public and disperse to the Little Bear survivors.

The Donation Center is located at 1940 Sudderth Dr. If you have items that you would like to donate, please feel free to take them to the donation facility Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.   Please take note, both the Recovery Center and the Donation Center will be closed on July 4th.

Please note the following concerning donations:

Please do not bring any more clothing. We have received a large quantity of these items already and we must be careful to appropriate space for other items that will be coming in the future. If you have clothing you would like to donate, please consider having a garage/yard sale and donating the funds earned to this effort. We are very grateful for the many racks of clothing that we have received already.

  • The items that the survivors have asked for specifically are baby diapers, Pedialyte, Enfamil, and first aid items or kits.
  • The items the donation center needs are hangers and clothes racks.

Again, a big “Thank You” goes out to all of the people and organizations who have donated items to our Little Bear Survivors.

No More Clothes, Please Reply

Hello Lincoln County. This may not seem very important in light of all the other recovery efforts, but it is becoming a real problem and impacting the ability for all the area donations facilities to do their job. They are all overloaded with clothing. Please, please, please put the word out that we do not need anymore clothes.

People are literally dumping huge piles of clothing outside of each of these facilities on a daily basis. This causes multiple issues with these facilities including:

  • Handling of clothing takes up all volunteer resources that can no longer be dedicated to food/water/house supplies/etc.
  • The clothing is taking up a considerable amount of valuable warehouse space and crowding out the ability to use these facilities effectively.
  • Some clothing is introducing bugs and bacteria that can be damaging to the rest of the goods in these warehouses.
